ABOUT CHARLES E. PHILLIP aka “Charlie”
Charles Ebenezer Phillip was born on June 11, 1959, to Albert and Mary “Brontie” Phillip and grew up at Russell Village in the ‘Village’ area, Basseterre, St. Kits. As a God-fearing believer, he served as a local preacher for The Methodist Church and held numerous leadership positions within his local church groups and St. Kitts Methodist Circuit. Charlie as he was affectionately called, was a businessman and played a pivotal role in the success of Jophil Auto Masters—often referred to as Charlie’s. Recognized as one of St. Kitts’ foremost experts in the automotive industry, particularly in spare parts. His intellectual prowess, business expertise, and modest demeanor contributed to his development into a compassionate and nurturing individual. His interest in having fulfilling and effective communication led him to become an amateur radio operator and mentor to many.
Charles Phillip was a visionary in his domain, renowned for his innovative ideas and unparalleled dedication to his church, family and work. His contributions in every sphere of his life have left a lasting imprint, influencing generations to come and redefining standards in his field.
However, ‘Charlie’ had a discreet side characterized by his deep compassion for humanity. His commitment to providing unwavering support to those in need of advice, financial assistance, or any form of comfort was driven by his unconditional love for people.
Throughout every phase of his life, he enhanced his calling with unwavering dedication. After marrying Iditha Phillip in August 2001, their home was often transformed into a youth and adult educational institute and served as a temporary residence for troubled youths. During the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout his final years when he was unwell at home, he would give instructions to his wife regarding donations. His favoured statement towards the end was, “I am not sure of the business’s financial state, but make it happen.”
Throughout his endeavors, Charles Phillip’s unwavering faith in God served as a guiding light, shaping his decisions and inspiring those around him. His exceptional ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life demonstrated his belief in the power of community and solidarity. As a mentor, he extended his wisdom generously, nurturing countless lives and instilling values of resilience, integrity, and optimism.
Charles also found solace in quiet moments, often reflecting on the beauty of life and the importance of cherishing every blessing. His legacy, built on principles of kindness and uniqueness, resonates deeply with those fortunate enough to have known him, ensuring the memory of his deeds and character endure for generations.
